View Full Version : How jealous can I be of my friend's banana plants?

Severely jealous. Her plants(several mats) are taller than her house, and she has a large amount of bananas on one(she removed and ate the male flower and outright said she doesn't even care about the bananas). She does NOTHING for the plants.

Mine? I get specially ordered fertilizers, wrap them for winter, agonize over them, name them and obsess over them and join websites devoted to them and MINE are like... 3 feet tall.

Pics of hers.

I wouldn't get overly jealous yet. Give yourself time. If you keep on being attentive in the garden, your plants will do better than your neighbors. In the photo it doesn't seem like those plants get full sun. Since you are neighbors lm guessing your conditions might be similar. I hope you put your plants in areas that recieve the most sunlight. That will go a long way. Good luck.

Well she doesn't do nothing, because someone is trimming those dead leaves.

She pulls leaves off randomly to FEED HER CHICKENS. *gasps in horror*

She's not my neighbor, this is a bit over an hour drive for me. She's a friend of mine though. She was trying to show me the chickens and rabbits and I was pretty much "Yes, fluffy and nice.. BANANANANANANA!!!!"

My banana plants are in full sun. Hers are very shaded.

Don't mind the naysayers Wolfy-chan, I feel your pain. I know people that do everything neglectful to their bananas short of burning them and the things put out like no tomorrow, and mine that I feed compost and manure and love SO MUCH still struggle to do well... *stank eye* >->

Are you sure she doesn't spread some burnt chicken and rabbit by-products to those bananas? That's amazing for being in shade.

My bananas have actually gotten worse as time went on, but I was away at college so I blame my parents :ha:

My DC in Jacksonville was shaded on both east and west; she got full sun about 4 or 5 hours a day. I did nothing to her but she thrived because she was in a marshy, low spot where years of leaves had decomposed. Other bananas in the neighborhood were stunted; they were in full sun in poor soil.

The manure they'd get would be fresh chicken manure, but they do scratch the base and scatter stuff away from it while they're EATING THE ROOT BITS.

*shudders* I want to uproot them all and carry them home and wrap blankies around them and cuddle them and keep them safe.

Then they'd probably die and come back as tiny little 3 foot whiners like all of mine.
