I was about to give up on my bananas that was overwintered in the ground under three feet of woodchips in Waterford Michigan! After 10 years of them coming back thought I could count on them to return! It was getting late May and saw no evidence of any new growth! One week ago they surprised me when three pups appeared telling me everything was OK! Thank goodness! For I was worried! Was it just me or has other people seen this late growth?

Hi Bill,
I do not think, that you have belated growth, but rather regeneration. It looks to me like your
main PS froze/rotted beyond repair, but the corm survived and is sending out new pups.
:)
I do not know the climate in your region, but I would think that in other places than extreme
desert, wood chips might provide reasonable insulation against the cold, but unless covered
with some plastic or tarp, would let enough water through (and keep it) to cause the
dormant PS to rot.
Good luck,
Olaf

I had late growth on many plants including bananas.
MY soil temp was not consistently warm enough to trigger some of my bulbs to grow.
I have some Aroids in containers that are just biding their time, maybe I will get some growth later in the month.
My nighttime temps are currently in the 50's which isn't helping matters for certain heat loving plants.
