View Full Version : Resetting of the flower initiation?

I was wondering what exactly happens to the meristem of the plant after the flower initiation has been triggered. As far as I understand the process, in an ideal environment,it could be pretty straightforward: the plant produces the flower that stops the leaves production. Then everything get bigger and bigger, all the leaves emerge one by one, till the flowers emerges too.
I was wondering if the plant can reverse the process once it is initiated; we know that Super Dwarf Cavendish in some way resets itself, so its flower must be aborted and vegetative growth must resume somehow; and after some BIG stress i see some of my bananas stop growing new leaves for a time far more prolonged than the one needed to overcome the stress, so i was thinking about some type of meristem reorganization (because this happens even in times when bananas doesn't get any root damage, so in cant' blame the roots).
I was wondering if someone has some insight on the topic, because i think this could be interesting to know, expecially to help people in temperate climate to manage the timing of the flower (which, incidentally, is the situation I live in. ;) )

Can you explain better.

we know that Super Dwarf Cavendish in some way resets itself

That sees like unringing a bell.

manage the timing of the flower

Retarding is easy.
