Anyone have any idea what this might be.
A friend bought it and doesn't want it and I
Was curious to what variety this might be.

Hey Kevin,
It looks like possibly a Basjoo, which is a cold-hardy, ornamental variety based on its jungle green leaves and prominent midribs. Its still kind of hard to tell--maybe someone else can give their vote as well. Best wishes,
Andy

If your friend bought it in any nursery within HZ6 (yours) then basjoo is a good guess.
However this one, judging from the photo does not look like a basjoo to me. A good
indication would be, if the midrib on the back of the leaf has a reddish stripe. Sometimes
those stripes are a bit faint though. If you cannot see one on one leaf, look at another
one.

Good luck,
Olaf

Well, does it have a reddish stripe along the midrib in the back of the leaves?

It does not look like any basjoo, I have ever met. But that may be, because of the
fact, that is jammed in such a small pot, has affected its development and shape.

Well I won't know till next week I don't have it here
He still has it. I do have a basjoo I planted outside.
When I get it I will post a couple better pictures
For you to see.
It really needs to come out of that small pot though

Pretty sure its a Basjoo, when mine were in lower light over winter, the reddish tint was absent.
