I planted a Saba (I will be planting one in La as well) today to see how well they might fare here with some folk saying it may have some cold resistance. This Banana is planted in the open w/ no cover so I guess come winter or next spring we will see how this one fares especially after it just hauled got up here and looks like it.. :^)

Looks like a lot of mulch for a new pup....my experience has been to not heavily mulch until leaves are powering along.
Good luck and keep us posted!!

Looks like a lot of mulch but most aerated soil with a thin layer up top. I they like heat, but thinking no matter how big it gets it couldn't get thru a winter like the last one we had. I guess we'll see.. :^)

Got it, I have had them topple over when planted on a mound.
You try praying hands?
Chong has conveyed Pitogo, Saba & Praying hands are related with very similar pulp.

The base of the roots are @ ground level, just like my Goldfinger's were last year so there is alot of mulch on the sides, but not on top.
I have previously, but know once I get a flower I'll never have enough time unless I have no winter.. saba is similar, but just figured I'd grow them since I have them. Maybe if they ever come of anything I will grow a Pitogo once again.. I know where I could put that in a semi protected area.. :^)

Well she's getting bigger, but the brach's are strong enough for the wind we have since the last 2 have broken, or is she short some minerals?
