Have cayennes on purchased bush--jalapeno from tossed seeds is blooming. Red peppers are fruiting well--1 is nearly ripe. Nothing I've planted here from seed is growing very well; the ones that are came from Jville as seedlings. Very odd. I'm about to go find some rotted horse manure with which to side dress. Mulch, MG and lots of water isn't cutting it.

I know I think I'm going to pick up some chicken poo for my mater's.. they all stems & leavesFor once I'm glad I can't post pictures. I thought I was planting in an "improved bed". Ha! My poor tomatoes got attacked by some fungus so I've sprayed gently with baking soda as recommeneded by the local nursery. Has it helped? Perhaps but they look the same size as when I planted them a month ago and not as healthy. (I have 3 volunteers trying to produce; they're a mediocre fruit and were supposed to be yanked 2 weeks ago but may be all that produce this season.)

Oh, I do have okra--not much but keeping 2 plants picked so they don't stop flowering before the other 11 get up to speed. IF this were my garden, I'd have done it my way by building the beds properly and starting all transplants in paper pots (too tacky according to Mr. Cocoa) but it's not so I'm tiptoeing around and getting nothing for my efforts save what I didn't put in the main garden but kept potted up on the side.

Soon...I hope...soon.

I want a moat and one of those things that fling flaming objects at any breathing thing that would dare invade my space...birds must those that don't like fruit.

Okay, apparently, I want a fortress! (Note that it's sounds like a feminine word--is it?--so it makes sense.) No deer, squirrels, dillers or coons allowed to breach the border. And no grasshoppers, cutworms or no-see-ums better dare cross the water.

Why did you did build a moat? Pictures?

Ha ha ha That's funny right there.. Oh, btw I do have carrots coming up.. :^)Congrats! I have 2 month old beets that look like they're 2 weeks old. (Yes, I know this is not beet season in FL--I was just playing.) I pulled up the Swiss chard, put them in a flat and started more which are looking good. The oldsters are as happy there as they were growing for 2 months in sand. I haven't given up yet...yet...because 2 of the 30 cukes I planted are blooming and crawling up the bamboo spikes--the other 5 that survived are totally confused about the fact they're supposed to be growing.

Honestly, I do know how to grow veggies--I really honestly do. Had 140 tomato plants my first time trying in 1980--canned 3 years worth of sauce and salsa--gave away tons of lettuce to the nursing home.

I will master FL--I will because, said in my best Scarlet voice, "after all tomorrow is another day"...and "I will never be hungry again". :ha:

man your cucs are kickin! we have to wait until fall to plant around here. they don't do so well in the heat and the stinkbugs destroy them during the summer. i usually trellis them, but love the look of them as a ground cover so i'll give that a shot in a couple months.

I've pretty much given up on mine but a few weeks ago the little girl next door came over with some red potatoes that had been stored in the fridge. (Who does that? Sacrilege!) Miraculously they were trying to sprout so, since the little garden I started for her (that she did not water regularly) had pretty much petered out, I went ahead and stuck them in the dirt.

Local nursery says February is the only month for planting Irish potatoes.

Darn if they're not growing! Very healthy! Wrong time of year? Hey, who am I to argue with success? So today I gently dug up their root balls and replanted them about 6" deeper. (I never thought to trench them in the beginning. Up north I'd have packed them with straw; there is no straw in FL. But that sand is sure is easy to dig!)

We'll see. If she succeeds in getting spuds, I'll be amazed. Except I really won't. In Ohio I was often not able to plant until June because it was too darned wet. (One year I replanted 4 times and only got 25% total that didn't rot in the ground.) Plants died off when it got really cold even if they weren't done. It's nice to have a little experiment to watch.

you had better enter salad mode big-time, or make some bread and butter pickles.
one time I grew some cukes and I was just goofing one day and put the cuke blossom inside a coke bottle and let it grow inside the bottle then I put some vinegar in it corked it and put a paper sign on it that read in case of starvation break glass,to make a long story short I sold about 15 bottles of them where my wife worked people love it.

P.S. the funniest thing was peoples remarks as to how the cucumber got inside the bottle
one of the funniest ones was where is the dirt...
