I worked in an Oldsmobile service department about 30 years ago and we did the service on all the vehicles for the G.D. Searle company that created that crap. Those employees were strangely giddy when their new product came out, they were all going to be very wealthy while we were going to get poisoned. I stopped consuming that stuff many years ago.

It gives me migraines. I don't touch diet or light versions of anything because the artificial sweetners give me migraines.

But it's not a rat poison. There's plenty of websites that'll tell you how peanut butter causes cancer and cell phones are really alien mind control devices, etc. With billions of people using the product and not dying or getting sick, not likely any of the claims are true.

I read on the FDA's website that the stuff is good for killing ants.
FDA's site also use to say that a genetically modified E. coli bacteria is used to produce an especially large peptide used to create aspartame. However I am unable to find this data on their website any more.

If it weren't rats gaining, I'd say it was people thinking "hey, I'm having a diet soda so I can have the large fries and sauces and whatever else looks good since I'm saving 100 calories on the beverage". Which is what I used to do. Which is why I was very tubby in my youth. Diet soda did not make me chubby--thinking I could inhale 500 calories because I was imbibing no sugar soda did it.

I was a Tab freak--not sure what sweetener that contained. I recall grabbing a 6 pack to take with me when I drove home early in the AM from college in Asheville to the DC area after spending sleepless week cramming for midterms and finals. 486 miles with only one stop for gas because the MG could probably have done it on a single tank as long as I coasted through the mountains (wouldn't press the issue but we were close to arriving on fumes). Nothing like crossing your legs to keep you wide awake and alert.

it has to do with your reward response. regular sugar satisfies your food cravings while fake sugar does not, so you crave more food. that's according to nih

I've figured out how to make them palatable/edible (actually quite yummy) within about 20 minutes of on and off cooking in the microwave. Fruit? What kind? Only raisins touch my oats. That and butter and brown sugar. Otherwise it's just blech. No cinnamon at all. Butter, BS and raisins only.
