I recently heard that Balsa tree roots discourage moles, ( a plague in my area). Any comments?

That is interesting, we also have a thread about germinating Balsa seed.
Maybe Island Cassie knows anything about it.
I know the flowers have to be pollunated by Bats, so maybe the moles
are afraid of the bats:)
Or it could be due to the fact that a Balsa tree sucks a lot of water out of the soil.
The stem of the tree contains a lot of water.
Or do you mean only the roots, not the tree?
Just guessing.
Also a very welcome aboard.

Thank you for your reply. I was shown this tree in Destin, FL, and told of the mole repellant property . I'm beginning to wonder if this is truly a balsam since it reseeds itself every year and goes dormant or dies to the ground in the winter. Interesting, indeed !
