Received 6 banana plants from a friend and my wife and I would like to try our skills at this new to us plant we do grow a large assortment of other plants and do a lot of canning looking forward to chatting with other growers that could help us along the way.

Charlie, it would help a great deal if you put your zone/location in your profile; zone 7 growers have much different issues those those of us in zone 10. Do you know what kind of bananas you were gifted? If not, post some pictures and members can probably help you identify them. Depending on how big yours are, some from the mother would be most telling. Welcome.

Welcome Charlie, I am also new on this site, but have been growing banana trees (no fruit) for a couple of years here in Central Virginia. I have ten trees now, but 24 acres, so I have a whole lot more planting to do!
