Hello all! Just joined the site today. I got my Musa Basjoo Banana in a large 2 gallon pit a few days ago. I got it into the ground today following all instructions for planting including compost, manure and mulch. Great location with about 9 hours of full sun then partial shade. My question is now that I have it planted 4/25/14 and forecast changed for Sunday to drop to 39F at night. Should I cover it with a plastic type tent or leave my baby to tough it out?
ROOKIE MISTAKE I KNOW! LOL

My plants will be out in it also......they are not Basjoos.
Your good with the temps in the forecast but.....if you have any doubts put an upside down garbage can over it.
If were an established plant then your good till a hard frost.
OOPs ....just a reminder....
I am an annoying member with an annoying answer with a lot of annoying people asking me a lot of annoying questions......
just kidding.
Good luck

Welcome. Basjoos are rather tough even the small ones starting out and tolerant to chilly temps at night that are close to freezing. A good rule of thumb is to watch when the temps fall into the 30s and its a clear night. get a stick that is taller than the plant and put it in the ground next to it and take a relatively light piece of cloth like a bed sheet and drape it over the stick and the plant. This should provide more than enough cover for typical frosts. You only have to worry about it for a few crucial hours usually between midnight and sunrise with spring frosts. Hope you have good luck these first spring nights should be no problem
