Lots of forums have maps where members can give their location with a push-pin.
There can also be a section where sellers are rated 1-10 on all sorts of categories. This might make for better sellers.

We have been thinking about setting up a feedback system where members can review other members.
We already have the push pin map, it's at:
http://www.bananas.org/vbgooglemapme.php
Thanks for the suggestion and know that we take every suggestion very seriously. It puts us one step closer to doing the actual modification.

Hey Jarred,
Is there anyway to add push-pins the maps in the wiki species pages?
It would be interesting to see where each type of banana is grown!

Yes, I wondered that too, and tried, but couldn't find a way, in fact I crashed my Internet Explorer trying. I hope it didnt hurt the website because I got "Database Error", then IE froze!

That's exactly what the maps are for in the wiki.
First you need to know your latitude and longitude.
Then you make a new line between the map tags and add your entry below the prior one, leaving the prior ones alone.
Save and thats it.
This is the format I use for my entries:
26.063414912034293, -80.25358263521576, [[User:MediaHound]]
The first number is my latitude, followed by a comma and a space, then you see my longitude followed by a comma and a space, then open bracket open bracket which translates into "open link" followed by User:Mediahound which is my userpage in the wiki, followed by close bracket close bracket. The brackets tell the site that we're linking to whatever is in-between them.
You can put whatever you want there, and whatever you put after that second comma is what will appear in the balloon when someone clicks your pushpin on the map. So on my map entry on the following page, when you click my pushpin, there's a link to my userpage in the wiki.
http://www.bananas.org/wiki/Musa_Siam_Ruby
Take a look at that page and click the pushpin.
Now take a look at the source of that map in action:

===Members Growing This Banana===
<googlemap lat="29.840644" lon="-26.015625">
26.063414912034293, -80.25358263521576, [[User:MediaHound]]
</googlemap>
If anyone else wants to add their location to that map, if you're growing the Siam Ruby, you would put a new line under my line and copying the format I used, put in your info.
As for the db error, I suggest you please try again. Sometimes the server gets terribly loaded with people interacting with the website and the db looses touch with the site... but usually its remedied within a moment or two.
I'm always happy to help anyone having trouble with the map on a one on one in the private message board or here in the forum.
You can find your latitude and longitude if you've entered your location on the general member map that the forum has here:
http://www.bananas.org/vbgooglemapme.php
If you've placed your location there, you can find your lat and long inside the "Map Me" link that appears under your username next to your posts as well as on the "your entry" page here:

Thank you sooo much for the easy to follow directions! I'll start adding pins for all my plants.:sumbrero:
I still have not been able to add myself to the members map though.:2738:
Also is there a way I can (change) fix the space in my username?
I would have PM'd this but others may have the same questions so...

Are you on webtv? I know there's a compatibility issue with the map and webtv users as the webtv setup uses a very outdated browser. We had that problem with somebody here once before.
About the username, surely I can adjust that for you!
Show me how you want it to look and I'll set it up exactly as you'd like.

I think we use something local called zianet. I'm not sure. One of my roomates uses it for our business websites so...
If I give you my lat & long, could you add me?

heavens-above.com says it's a little different but my bananas are really planted at... Wait, you don't think because I was using other lat & long it didn't work??? I don't think so I tried it when I first joined using the maps here and it didn't work then. Anyways, my bananas reside at this spot.
32.32848222921616, -106.76856994628906,.
It was really easy marking me on the wiki pages. I guess I had a great teacher. I'd also like to add I used your instructions on posting pix tonight and posted pix with ease the first time I tried. I don't know if anyone else has problems posting pix or if it's just me, but maybe we should bump that thread up? I didn't even try to do the click on my pic thingy that sends them to my gallery, but maybe in the near future I'll try it.
Thank you for all your help again.
