View Full Version : I actually drove my own truck today!

It's been parked while I've been chauffeured. (Grrr! But part of the reason is my fuel gauge went out on a very bumpy road so I'm kinda guessing since I haven't filled up. Plus I don't know this area.)

Why was I driving? Because the brake line purchased at Advance after our 4/12 trip down the median was the wrong one; apparently Chevy redesigned them, didn't do an official recall and the after market manufacturers haven't all caught on--since 2005! It was rubbing against the caliper.

Part of today's adventure included information gathering which meant visiting a Chevy dealer. Meandering back from there to another scheduled stop I noticed a huge outside veggie stand. Normally I wouldn't get to stop and see but I had the wheel.

What a hoot! Everything looked old and wilted and the guy in charge saying that everything was 5 bucks didn't help. But Mr. Cocoa had seen through that statement when he was given a bag to fill. I did ask if he grew any of the produce he was selling; he replied "Maybe some and maybe none. It comes from Plant City; my boss is there picking up a fresh load now."

I would have totally walked away but then noticed jalapenos many of which looked pretty sorry but not all. Greens were 7 for $1 and red were 10 for the same. Ouch! But produce is pricey here so not out of line. I began sorting through them and that's when the man grabbed my plastic grocery bag and stuffed it more than half full. Gulp! I mentioned that I didn't need that many (implication I wasn't paying $40 for a bag of peppers). "What you have is $2." Then he laughed and I got it--whatever wimpy stuff didn't sell soon was destined for the dump.

So I spent $2 for a red onion so large that I thought was a deformed eggplant, a bag of 12 bananas perfectly ripe and all those jalapenos.

Long way of asking, has anyone ever had cowboy candy? If so and it's any good, do you have a recipe? Or any other great recipes? I'm making poppers (your recipe would be appreciated), smoking some and canning slices but holy cow that's a lot of peppers!

I had goto the Dealership to get my rear brakes and the emergency brake pads.. I think they like charging that extra arm & leg, cause you are not getting the Auto zone deal.. :^)

Actually the guy at the Chevy dealership explained the issue--changes in specs and that there are wrong parts being sold. And he also mentioned that you could save 1/2 by going online to the Net site. (His price was $47.)

The new brake line went out within 5 days; it does not fit. Ended up costing about $30 locally for the right one and we are taking the other back. I was very clear when I purchased that if it was the wrong one I wanted to return it. It's not just my money; it's not safe for them to sell what they are.

So no jalapeno recipes/suggestions?
