"A strain of the Cavendish banana produces two or more flowering stalks within a single trunk,
whereas the native Hawaiian variety Mahoe produces a single flower stalk which divides
midway of the cluster and bears twin bunches of fruit."

Only historical, it's thought be be extinct. You can find a picture in the Kepler and Rust book. The TARS one shown above is just a double Cavendish ("Mahoi", spelled wrong), from what I can tell.

It's possible Dr. Pabon & TARS classified it incorrectly, possibly because of where the stalk split,

but seriously a spelling error?

That does make sense,

Connecticut vs Michigan State
&
Kentucky vs Michigan

OK, maybe not a spelling error per se, but a misidentification. My point is, the spelling isn't really going to give you the right ID, given that Mahoi and Mahoe are different "Englishized" spellings of a traditional Hawaiian word. The real deal that was called Mahoe by the ancient Hawaiians was a tall plant (10-20' of p-stem) in the Maoli subgroup (same subgroup AeAe is in), not a dwarf in the Cavendish subgroup.

Hawaiian words are often misspelled, as with "Ae Ae" vs. A'ea'e.

OK, maybe not a spelling error per se...

Yep. What's our next geography lesson?

Now it's an English lesson.

Per se : by, of, or in itself

OK, maybe not a spelling error by itself

It was not a spelling error.

What's next double negatives?

Per se is a pretentious term,
often used by people who try to sound more intelligent than they actually are.

Should be mahoe. Mahoe means twin in Hawaiian, referring to the twin bunches. Mahoi does not mean anything in Hawaiian
