There is quite a big group of what may be Mysore bananas at my new place. All have a lovely burgundy flush on the backs of new leaves. Perhaps even three kinds? Any insight would be much appreciated! On one side of the group the nanners are low, tiny and few, but delicious! They certainly were exposed to heavy herbicide use, and may not have been fertilized before. Towards the center of the group, the plants are much taller, good sized bunches 10-12 feet up. I'm remembering these not as tasty, but have only had two bunches, both set before my fertilizing. Then, I may be imagining the whole thing, at the far edge are more sunset colored plants. The first sunset bunch is setting, about 7' up, and a handsome thing it is!

After a windstorm, the top of this was cut off, the come-back colors are fabulous!

Well, they sure look like Mysore, though those heights are on the short side for Mysore. Could just be that they've had a rough time prior to you giving them more TLC. Post more photos when the bunches are more developed.

More clues for you all. For some reason I can't retrieve the comments on the earlier photo, sorry, surely there is good info there that I can't see. Any ideas on how I can access your comments? Comment away here in the thread, if you don't mind. All thoughts much appreciated!
Here is the "sunset" bunch at a later stage, yes the stalk is red-purple, see close up below.

Nope, that isn't some weird reflection, the fruit are blushed with purple. Probably the result of some hideous disease or malnutrition. ;-)

These are bunches from what may be two other kinds in the same big mat. That yellow blur is a white eyed finch leaving after sucking banana nectar! The bunch on the left is the taller type in the center of the group, and the one on the right is the shorter type. The short one has small, straggly bunches, tiny bananas with a wonderful fruity taste.

The one on the left looks like a classic Mysore bunch. Mine (all 2) have been 10-12' and I'm close to where keikikid is. The Kepler & Rust book mentions them jutting out at that 45 degree angle as showing here. The other seems quite different angle wise at least.
The purple/red blushing I've seen at times, both on fruit and and the peduncle (stem) on probably a few of the one I grow, including DB & Mysore (peduncle only), which generally fades in the fruit.

Thank you Rob! That is a relief! Our Hamakua clay is notoriously deficient in phosphorous, made me wonder if the purple color could be an indication of low P, like it is in tomato plants. All of the sunset colored plants are quite orange/ red/ copper/ pink, unlike the burgundy tones of the Red bananas growing here.

Yes, some of mine get this too, purple blush on the fingers that fades with time. It's been most noticeable on "tall Pome" (probably Brazilian) and Manzano. Not sure of the cause.

Out there in the banana patch everyday, collecting brown stains on clothes, sharpening my banana eyes and having fun learning. The more I look, the more confused I get, but that is why I'm here!
The bunch on the "sunset" plant is still pretty horizontal.

and the male flowers have sweet nectar gel in the cups! Just scrape off a few ants...
