I live in the us and married a Dominican woman. Her family lives in Santo Domingo and her father has land that he has not farmed for 15 years.
We went there over X-Mas and we decided to plant 1,000 banana trees.
My father-in-law is in charge and our total cost $400.00
Two questions I have is gestation period and distribution. If this works we will plant 1,000 more next year.

Thanks for the welcome.....great start to the web. Just talked to my father-in-law in the DR and he machete his foot (bummer) while planting....he's taking a week off and back at the farm....400 planted....600 to go!!

I hope your father-in-law feels better soon. What type(s) of bananas did/will he plant? Cavendish, Namwah, Gros Michel, Plantains, etc??? Do you plan to export bananas or sell them locally?

I do not know the exact banana seed he planted....he said that the gov't was giving out banana "bulbs" and was taking many of them, and then was driving to the north part of the island to purchase more for .50 cent each.
My total investment was $400 and that included $150 to rent a truck and gas to put all the bulb's in............
I will call him and ask if he knows the kind of tree we have......
