I bought a Dwarf Cavendish and would like fruit, but I live in zone 7. I have a greenhouse with a ten foot ceiling so I can move it in there in the winter. Is it possible to get it to fruit like this? How long does it take a DC to fruit? I also have Dwarf Orinoco (which is proving pretty tough), and I would like info about fruiting that one as well. If you have grown, or know about these, what was your experience with them?:03:

I live in zone 7 in NC and presently have a potted DC that has fruit on it. Yes, it is possible to get fruit. However, it is not easy. My two DC's that have fruited took 2 to 2.5 years to produce a flower. Even so, the amount of time your plant needs to produce fruit will depend upon the water regimen, fertilizer, amount of sun, size of the pot, temperature control in greenhouse, etc. Even after the flower appears, if your plant does not have sufficient growing conditions, the flower will likely choke. You will need months to ripen the fruit. Unfortunately, my two DC's both produced flowers around Thanksgiving 2012 and 2013, when I had no sun to offer them. The first plant was too weak to mature the fruit. The current plant's fruit looks strong, but the leaves look pitiful due to low humidity indoors. The 10-foot ceiling should be adequate for the DC.

Wow, that's awesome, I better try to figure out a way to heat the greenhouse up into at least the 60s at night.

People have gotten fruit in zone 6 before. But it's something that's incredibly rare and requires that the bloom occur at the perfect time.
