I planted this 1 1/2 yrs ago, it is now producing fruit. See picture, it is supposedly a Cavendish banana. It is to small to be one, as the average size is 3"-4". When the skins turn yellow with a hint of grey they split open (either on or off the plant). Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

How do they taste? Are they just totally sweet or do they have an apple-like tanginess? I'd guess Manzano aka Apple Banana, unless they are just totally sweet. If the skin is especially thin and there is only sweetness, I'd guess Sucrier/Pisang Mas/Niņo/Kluay Khai. Can also help to include pictures of the plant. Clearly not any cavendish type though.

They are not sweet, they are actually leave a dry, tart not a very good taste. I will post a picture of the plant in the morning. Thanks

Is it lumpy & chalky?
We have two different varieties, both named manzano. One looks like yours, the peel splits early and is lumpy & chalky.
The other is a top quality banana and the peel does not easily split, this is a photo at the perfectly ripe stage.

Sounds like Manzano. By the looks of them, they aren't ready to eat yet. The ripest you can get them is when they will be better.

Keith, are there any difference in anything about the plants of these two Manzano varieties, or is the only discernible difference in the fruit?

The ones in Keith's pic look a lot like DBs to me, although with a less pronounced stubby tip at the end.

Definitely not a DB.
I probably should have included a photo of the inflorescence.
It's much hardier than a DB, but not nearly as hardy as a Morado.
