View Full Version : Should I cut the bunch?

I have two DCs with bunches hanging, both still green. The first bunch appeared in early August. Some of the fruits are starting to crack now, and temperatures here should be relatively cool for the next few months, so I'm afraid they will just go to waste hanging on the plant. I tried covering with a plastic bag, but that only seemed to rot the tips of some of the fingers.

Would I be able to cut this bunch and hang it indoors, or do I need to wait for at least one to turn yellow? The bananas seem to be filled out, but still very hard and green. (Sorry, I'll try to get pictures up later)

Thanks

they always feel hard and green even though they are ready to ripen, but it sounds to me like they are ready to cut down and hang inside a warm place..
you could always cut off one hand and see how they do. If ready they would turn yellow within 5-6 days or so....hard to really tell with out pictures...

Living in HZ6 myself, I have no idea how to properly deal with fruiting. But I have
learned one thing: Never put plastic (or concrete, when storing) in direct contact
of any part of the plant, especially if the weather is cool and humid. I would
presume, that goes for the fruit too.

Good luck,
Olaf
