Found this plant at a local nursery in south Florida after a heavy rain. There were several banana plants that fell down but had fruit still attached. I photographed the fruit bunch and asked the owner if I could buy the base of the plant which I brought home and planted. Please tell me if this is the real BLUE JAVA ice cream as I have several others which i am not sure of.

Yes, that looks like them. 2 of the 4 mats I have had the main pstem fall over over yesterday. Biggest PITA banana I grow and not worth the trouble. Probably ripping them all out but 1 soon. The endless interest in them on this site I don't get (but for the name), almost any edible banana is better.

I like the color and look of the blue java fruits. Since everyone says the fruit tastes terrible, I suppose some people just grow it as an ornamental. I would, especially if I had the opportunity to buy the base of a big one like that.

Yep, that's it. Long pedicels, blue-ish skin and taste like no other. Thank goodness!

It's a caca banana!

So let's forget about it.

I'm going to keep mine just to have it, even if I don't like the fruit. :woohoonaner:

I find it hard to remove a perfectly good looking banana too, even knowing I could grow something else in that spot. Also, you could TC it and make a lot of people happy, at least until they taste it.
