Hi All,

I've been looking for banana seeds for my research project and thought I'd ask the Bananas.org community for help. My research project is quite complex and large, but in short, I'll be putting the seed through a synchrotron(shoot lasers at it) to get an x-ray image of the seed and look at the seed structure. I'll also be digesting it in acid to get phytoliths (silica deposits).

I'm looking for 1-2 seeds from different individuals of Musa & Ensete. Knowing what species you have is important and please no hybrids.

Thanks for reading,
Molly

Molly, if it's research, I can get Musa balbisiana, M. acuminata, M. ornata & M. laterita for you. I'm tryig to free up time to make the long visit to the most reliable Post Office (the one right next to the AIRPORT - LOL!!)

These seeds are from feral populations. The material comes from escapes from the Imperial College of Tropical Agriculture's early/mid 20th Century collection of species bananas (now non-existent) on Trinidad, West Indies.

Caveat: Musa seed morphology often varies even in seed out of one clone; as morphology is sometimes dependent of on magnitude of seed set.

And even in the wild, sporadic absence of pollinators - or even untoward weather - can make a huge difference in seed set.

Anyways, I respectfully suggest that you zap more seeds with your FEL - just to be sure you're getting statistically significant results.
