I'm getting way more ads lately. First there are ones that appear above the Bananas.org logo. Some of these have a line at the bottom of the ad that reads, "Ad not by this site." Then, below that is the forum, or thread, that you're looking at, and below that is another ad. (These are banner ads, that stretch across the screen.)
Then, sometimes, at the right side of the screen, I get square ads that block part of the screen. Some of these have a "Close" button, but many do not. Some of these also have sound. Some have a mute button. but many do not. Some have animation and say "View Video". Many, you have to endure, until they're finished.
Is there any way I can get rid of these?

Sounds like you have some browser plugins injecting ad layers on sites that you visit. We didn't add any new ads units to this site in years.
Get your computer cleaned up!
Install and run Malwarebytes. Run it a couple of times and it should clean it up.

I'm using Internet Explorer.
I use Internet Explorer and I don't see any ads.
I'm not entirely sure that this is the problem but if you have signed up for Google+ or any Google apps that might be the issue.
Google seems to think they own the internet and have ad scams running all the over the place to enhance their income.
I live in Costa Rica and have one ad at the top of this page for a local bank, Banco Popular.
On the upper right corner is a right pointing arrow and if you mouse over it the phrase "AdChoices" appears.
If you click on it you get a new tab by Google's "AdSense Help". On that page you will find a link to "Ads Settings".
On the Ads Settings page, at the bottom, you will find an "Opt Out" option that allows you to opt out of their ads based on what they know about you.
This is probably true of any other web site whose income is ad based.
