hi All,

I need to find suppliers of Breadfruit Germplasm in Florida.

You can reply on the list; publicly; privately - or to my email addy below...

It's really important (...well, I think so, anyways). I'm stationed in Trinidad, West Indies; and very privately trying my best to do my part to resuscitate a flat-lining Agricultural Sector.

U hav2 c it 2 b-leev it!! lol

I got mine (maopo - very tasty smallish fruit, leaves are almost entire, love it) from these guys: National Tropical Botanical Garden - Tropical Plant Research, Education, and Conservation. (http://ntbg.org/breadfruit/resources/) Here is a list of their varieties: National Tropical Botanical Garden - Tropical Plant Research, Education, and Conservation. (http://ntbg.org/breadfruit/database/search/varlist/)
In general people I've enjoyed ulu with say that while the Hawaiians were the best in the world as far as taro breeding, they did not seem to have much to work with in breadfruit. The best ones seem to come from Samoa and Tahiti. Probably elsewhere, too. I'm not sure what you will have to do to get plants to Trinidad, but if the process starts getting rough you could alway watch Mutiny on the Bounty again.

I will breed the damn things one day Ray! But first i have to get my hands on diploids and triploids with some fertility.

I've written to the NTBG. Hope they reply.

Meanwhile, I'm going through "Bounty-ful" horrors on Trinidad trying to get Musa germplasm!!

Strangely enough, Musa domestication history seems eerily like Breadfruit - only far older and far more complex. So I'm prepared for anything. Bring it on Breadfruit - I'm banana toughened!! lol!

You have probably found these guys already. It looks like they are set up to navigate import restrictions: Global Breadfruit (http://www.globalbreadfruit.com/index.html)

Ray, Thanks.

No, I didn't know about these folks. I'm trying to re-introduce a balanced cacao agroforestry here on Trinidad - after decades of failure of cacao monocropping (a rather silly fad adopted in the 70's I think).

The two early yielding vars they have look worthwhile.

I deeply appreciate any and all of these bits of data you send.
