I keep clearing falling leaves out of my DC so it's fall. But she just keeps sending out leaves. I am hoping against hope she doesn't get frosted or frozen but such is life; she's my experiment for 2013 so I'm not going to even tarp her or try not to. I paid $7.99 for her; she has 5 pups. If I lose her to the ground, her children will probably live on unless we get a Lake Effect snow worthy of Geauga County, OH. (If we do, I'm moving further southward; people who chose to reside where there is a 2 week summer are nuts and I've never been that crazy ever.)

I'd wrap her in some frost cloth.. I'm sure Lowe's or Hoe Depot has some on the cheap.. Or your DC is going to look pretty droopy.. Kinda like this rose after we got 24F last week.. :^)

I'm a gambler at this point in my life. Actually I've been one regarding plants for many years. I got into figs because a neighborhood woman loved picking seeds from my front beds in the city. I caught her and engaged her in conversation. "Take all you want but say 'hi" when you do". So she did and we became gardening friends; she was invited to the back of my yard to gather goodies. One day she brought me 2 figlets in a 2" deep deli container; I already had 1 she'd collected sticks from which I hated. Yes, I thanked her all the time thinking "NO!". I absentmindedly set them on top of a raised bed and ignored them all summer. That fall, when I realized they'd lived, I took pity on them and stuck them in dirt where they went nuts. 38 or more different unknowns and few knowns later, I was raising FIGS. DOUBLE BLECH!

I'll take my chances. She's just a DC so unworthy, right? If she keeps going, I've got one who can survive this zone.

Now you have me thinking about protection for her. No, no, no! I'm lalalaing with my hands over my ears and my feet over my eyes. If she can't survive in a perfect south facing area with a fence and a lot of trees behind her, she's not going to. I need hardy for my next step--I know others raise them without protection here so I'm going for it.
