Hi everyone,
I know that banana plant dies after blooming, but what will happen if i cut off the flower when it is starting to come out? Did the plant already dies or continue to grow/vegetate??
Thanks,
:waving:

Just making sure you know (which you probably do). The plant doesn't die just the psuedo stem. The corm (bulb underneath) will send up more greenery. Usually several pups but at least one. It will grow faster than the first one did usually.

So will die in any case?
I'm interested because i wanna plant one on my garden and remove any pup that comes out...so i imagine by cutting bloom the one plant remains continue to grow...

This is only true for Musa.. We have no idea the type of banana that is being grown.

It is a Musa paradisiaca.

It dies in any case as the inflorescence is terminal. The plant stem elongates, grows through the center of the pseudostem and forms the inflorescence. So cutting the inflorescence is cutting the stem and the growing point. Then it can only grow through the pups.

So cutting the fruiting stem/terminal inflorescence is like to cut plants spinal cord/head...
