I order a few bananas from both greenearth and wellspring.

I wanted to report as I know others are always wondering about who to order from.

I ordered from greenearth at $10.95 plus shipping
2 cali. golds
2 goldfinger
2 ice cream (figure these might acutally be namwah) would love to hear from others on that
2 rajapuri

From Wellspring at 6.95 I ordered
1 orinoco
1 dwarf red
1 manzano apple
and various other plants on sale for like $5 each but not bananas

Report
The both sent me what I wanted (as far as I know) in a timely manner and plants arrived within a week of ordering unharmed.

Wellspring put in some free agapanthus as their promised.

Personally I think the extra 4 bucks was worth it for greenearth as their plants were larger and since this is my hobby I like bigger plants for not much more.

The green earth plants were in larger pots (before shipping, pots removed for shipping) all with 3 or more leaves and most good height on them. The tallest are about a 2 foot pstem with leaves higher. Shipped in the triangle boxes due to height

Wellspring were in good condition and what they promised (3" tall) to no problem with them. They were shipped in a medium priority box in 2 in square pots plants were less than 6 inches tall I'd say with one having only 1 leaf. They do appear to be in good shape and the site did not promise large bananas. They also had some vanilla plant, water chestnut, exotic fig and pineapple guava so I was excited about playing with those plants cheaply.

I have attached some picture for those interested

You can see in this picture greenearth largest versus wellspring largest both taller than promised with leaves.

Wellsprings one leave banana

I am very excited about the varieties I just picked up to potted them last night and hope I keep them alive. LOL

Interesting.. I ordered Caligold's & Goldfinger's from Greenearth last year and the Caligold's & TS turned out to be Mutant Goldfinger's so keep them tagged, and updated. I'd like to see if Ted has found the real deal. Nice Looking healthy plants you have there.. :^)

I don't have any reason to doubt that you got the right varieties, but really, you won't know for sure until they fruit. Just ask Rob.

I had a problem with Greenearth a few years ago; shipping delays and very rude answers to my status request. But his plants arrived very healthy and large. I decided to order from him a couple weeks ago, and this time around plants arrived within a few days - and as you said, much larger than what I've gotten from Wellspring.

I ordered Truly Tiny from Wellspring and some other tropical plants. Great service and excellent product.

I ordered Super Dwarf Cavendish and Ice Cream from Greenearth. The shipping was extremely slow, about 3 weeks. I don't believe either plant is what it is supposed to be. I would beware of this company.

Tony, I'm getting ready to try TCing again. :)I plan to con someone else into doing it for me; so far it's working. Though I come from a family of scientists/physicists, all that sterile stuff and protocol makes my poor dyslexic head spin. In my defense I'm pretty good at normal propagation...have 7 lemon grass starts ready to pot up now...let me break out my Rootone and I'm golden.

I ordered some elephant ears from Wellspring and he contacted me and said he had none that were leafed out at the moment but would send me 4 bulbs instead of 2 if I still wanted them. Seems like a good seller and am going to order some nanas from him. Never heard of the Greenearth one, I will have to try that one too.

those greenearth bananas are huge I should order every banana plant there is and then just put them into one huge patch and make my own bananas hybridized I would call it musa Godzilla! AND id rather buy plants from people on here than random facilities a huge mass production of bananas always leads to a huge mess of mixing up plants u cant stop it :(

Yes buying from people hear does sound good unfortunately, I wanted bananas I didn't see in the swap, sell page. So until I make friends with people who have all the pups I want I'll be forced to buy them and hope for the best. I'll let you know how musa godzilla turns out.

I would check with your AG.Dept. before accepting plants from out of state

those greenearth bananas are huge ...(

Don't confuse size with vigor. I received two truly tiny from Wellspring and a supposed SDC and Ice Cream from Greenearth. The truly tiny have far more vigor than the SDC or Ice Cream, and they are about as tall too. That's pretty sad.

I'm really close to picking up some local unknown pups for $5 each (won't pay more even if someone claims to know what they have) and taking my chances. Hey, they grow here without protection; worst case I end up with a real IC.;)

Here is a one of 4 Goldfingers (one was suppose to be a Caligold, and another a Texas Star, but no such luck) I purchased from GreenEarth. This one has 7' of stem, and stacking hard.. In the ground this one will fruit just over a foot higher than a Mutant Goldfinger in a pot, and much to short to be compared to the real deal. :^)

If that's the first time this mat will fruit, 7' isn't too short for a Goldfinger. Later p-stems will be taller.

That's good to know, since 2 of the plants I ordered were actually Goldfingers.. what I know of the shorter version Darkman says he likes his fruit. The other 2 that look similar to goldfinger's are more wimpy, thinner stem, and not nearly as vigorous in growth, even w/ one planted in the ground for the 2nd year now, it gets half day sun. All I know Ted did tell me that he didn't use one source for his T/C's, when I told Ted about the Texas Star was a Cavendish type he sent me an SDC for free.. :^)
