They are in the Cavendish subgroup. Frankly they don't compare at all to 'Surcrier' and 'Namwah.'

When you grow Grand Nain and allow the fruit to start to turn yellow at least the first hand before harvesting they are excellent it's just like pineapple when you grow your own even though their smaller in size if you let them ripen maybe 80% yellow before harvest the taste is superior to any commercially grown pineapple.

You can also find manzanos and plantains in the supermarket on rare occasions. The quality of the manzanos varies greatly from gritty and sour to dense and delicious.

OK, Thanks. I have many plants, most are around 15ft tall but I don't know what kind they are. I have two stalks of bananas this year but i have never gotten them to go full term grow and harvest. i have tried the green ones just before the plants wilt for the winter but they tasted starchy. Any suggestions to get them to fruit earlier or am I just doing something wrong?

To identify the plant you're going to have to post an image, there are members here that have grown many varieties and will be able to provide you with a positive ID and no you're not doing anything wrong almost everyone here has lost fruit and plants due to cold temperatures.
