Been a long haul this Summer trying to get these from very tiny plants out of Florida but all going well it seems. Now for Winter and wrapping soon.

Interesting red. . . pretty plant, looks good. Was this a tissue culture and are you sure it's basjoo?

Can you post a pic of the pseudostem? That doesn't look like my Basjoo. I want to compare. Maybe its because the leaves are an older type. I got mine in the mail about 3 weeks ago, and all it had was the two smaller damaged leaves, Its put out 3 leaves since then, and has grown about 8 inches. All I did was put it in some miracle grow potting soil, it grows like a weed.

If this is not a Basjoo,,,,what might it be. I'll have to backtrack and see what nursery it came from.
Will get that pic and post tonight or in the morning. What do you guys think it is ?
It was a tissue culture.
Did come from Wellspring so from what I've gathered it very well could be another variety.

It looks like a Basjoo pup to me. The leaves seem to be the right size in terms of length -width ratio, the reddish stripe on the stem is common on most of the pups I've had. I just ran out to the garden and took a shot of a new pup.

I'm not sure that it being a TC means much, it could be that red stem stripes are common mutations in young Basjoos.

I'm guessing its just older leaved, could it be what they call a water pup? I think that is the term. Maybe that is why it struggled, because mine is growing like crazy. Were the leaves sword shaped or rounded when it was small?

Thats what mine looks like minus the red stripe, must be a variation.

Have tried several times to add pics to my album and process says upload complete and successful but when album pops up there are 3 highlighted boxes with no pics but have upload photos in center to click on. Have also tried that but no new pics in abum. Any ideas on what might be the problem ?

I was having that problem yesterday when I tried to upload my pics, it says there is a 4 megabyte limit or something, so I reduced the quality a bit to make them under that, but that didn't work either, then I scaled the images down to a smaller dimension 1024 x something or other, and they uploaded ok. The pics where like 3 megabytes apiece when I started but where like 350 kb when it worked. I was getting irritated, tried to upload like 20 times before that lol.

Here is that pic you asked for. By the way,,,the red has faded out since the pic I took earlier in the month.<a href=http://www.bananas.org/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=54880&ppuser=16660><img src=http://www.bananas.org/gallery/watermark.php?file=54895 border=0></a>
I'm going to try this one more time with a larger pic.

The first pic that showed the red was taken about two weeks ago. This shot was taken a yesterday and as you may notice, red has disappeared.

Well, I know I put mine in the ground to soon and later changed out the soil to Cactus but it was tough. Huge black spots that destroyed several leaves and another fungus of some sort so we're keeping fingers crossed and will wrap for Winter soon.

Oh yep that will do it, I hate losing stuff to fungus. Trying to germinate windmill palm seed right now, and I am afraid of fungus coming in and killing all the seeds.
