Pindo's some like to fruit a lil bit at a time, but many save their energy and fruit more when they are bigger.. I don't know what one of my small one's was thinking by trying to bloom 5X.. I had to clip 2 blooms.. or much would have fallen off.. Speaking of pindo's I need to see how the Jelly turned out.. :^)

If you feed the Pindo a date palm or fruit production formula, it will produce large dates with an apricot-date flavor.

Pindos will take low teens easily. That is, besides compatibility, why they crossed it with the Queen palm to create a extremely cold hardy feather palm that would imitate a coconut palm in looks.

I thought I'd never grow a Palm tree on my property (long story) until about 5 years ago when one of my customers in the coastal town of Leucadia showed me his Pindo. It is in a corner of his yard with pit fruits on either side, and for convenience he feeds it a fruit tree formula. The dates are large and have an apricot-like flavor. For me, it is a palm worth growing for the fruit. If you feed it with 2:1:3 ratios of NPK for a couple of years, with otherwise good care it should start putting out some great fruit for you too.

Are there any cultivars of pindo or related palms that have larger fruit? I have so far only observed pindos with fruit on our nearby island that is really most years a mild zone 9. Do they bear fruit in the colder parts of Zone 8b for example? I tend not to grow things if they do not product food or some other useful product/service for me. If they will yield fruit in my zone, I will try and grow it.

This is certainly a topic that bears further looking into.

The Only problem w/True Dates is you need male & female trees where as Pindo's you don't have to.

If Willis Farm Sells them (I wouldn't buy anything from them if they were the last place on Earth) I would find the farmer that supplies them. I found the grower for what I pick up in S. La. just happens to be on my way back from Crabbing.. My pocketbook likes the discount (1/3 over retail). There is a place a decent drive from you that grows them, you can get a bigger, cheaper plant, and Ca$h talks.. I'd call Brooksville (FL) Palms and see if they know a grower that grows them.. I found a place in S. Tx that grows them a few years back, but my weather I just decided to play it safe. :^)
