It's a scam. This person who calls themselves Linda Dibb tonkel says they are from MN, then they say it's the last one and they show you a photo that was taken from this site of a Ae Ae pup but without the bananas.org watermark. Stay away!!!

I once sent money to a King from Namibia. It helped him get through some tough times, and he repaid me close to $250,000 USD! Internet scams don't really exist...

Yeah and I won several International Lotteries I didn't enter. Unfortunately I couldn't get together the $4,000.00 in taxes so I lost millions. Now a relative in Africa has died and the lawyer says I just need a few grand to get the cash to clear customs. Fortunately I have a new job working from home. This guy sends me checks and all I have to do is cash them, buy a money order and send them to him. I get to keep $200.00 every time I cash one. My boss is so successful he doesn't even have time to cash his checks.

Am I lucky or what!!!!!!!!!

OK I have to run I have some Federal Bank Examiners here. We have to withdraw $10,000.00 out of my account. I'll give them the money(it's marked) and I get to help catch a crooked teller!

Wow I'm living the dream!

Ae was once restricted to Hawaiian royalty, but these days it is still rather rare. Musa 'Ae Ae' is therefore still on the 'most wanted' lists from most banana lovers.

Anyone who is not known within the community should be viewed with some distrust.

That said: please send me some seeds :goteam:

No this was a person going by Linda Dibb Tonkel and email of lindadibbtonkel@yahoo.com. Claimed to be in Michigan.

A search of her email shows connection to selling medical marijuana.

I placed a claim with PayPal, I was skeptical so made sure I used PayPal only.

They used a photo from here back in 2007 without the watermark via email to lure me in.

Will see what happens with PayPal.

I have spent a lot of time in Hawaii in the last 25 years and I remember a few things that were limited to royalty, AE bananas being one of the them.
Stokes Tropicals banana book mentions this in the AE description. I hope Rob on the Big Island will give us the full story.

Well I only know what I read in Kepler & Rust, in which they said there was no evidence for that being true.

@sunfish: It may be a popular myth but that myth may also have a grain of truth in it because of its continued scarcity.

As @hanabananaman says: a few things on the islands were restricted to royalty in the past.

But the mystery is: where is this Hawaiian Royalty now?

From wikipedia: The overthrow of the Kingdom of Hawaiʻi and the subsequent annexation of Hawaiʻi in 1898 has recently been cited as the first major instance of American imperialism.

:waving:

There has been an effort to reestablish Hawaiian sovereignty for many years. I am not aware of the current situation but always hoped they would be able to preserve their culture and get a reasonable resolution. The cost of living drives many people off the island and to the mainland. I have not studied the history too much but from what I have learned I believe my US government treated them horribly to put it mildly. I have joked many times with Hawaiian friends that some time in the future if a cheap alternative to jet fuel is not found that the tourist industry would decline to the point where housing prices would plummet. 6-10 days on a boat roundtrip will have a drastic effect. Then I could finally afford to live there if I'm still alive :ha:

So I have escalated to a PayPal claim.

Beware of a user with these email addresses, pelan@muchomail.com lindadibbtonkel@yahoo.com which is the person Benie who started this thread.
The verified email that I sent funds to on PayPal is farmerangle@hotmail.com.

Once again, BEWARE!

This is the photo I was sent of the pup I would receive. Further research show this plant here from 2007 and in Wikipedia with the Bananas.org watermark
http://seanmstevens.com/images/Ae.jpg

Further research shows this person has been at this scam for a while... See this link.
Beware of scammers from Cameroon. (http://translate.google.ca/translate?hl=en&sl=nl&u=http://palmvrienden.net/forums/viewtopic.php%3Ff%3D11%26t%3D10397&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dlindadibbtonkel%2540yahoo.com%26safe%3Doff%26client %3Dfirefox-a%26hs%3DjMU%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US:official%26biw%3D1440%26bih%3D773)

Unfortunately for me, I did not find evidence that this was a scam until after I sent the funds via PayPal. I have 8 days to wait for a PayPal decision.

Don't Be Scammed like I was....

I guess whenever someone says " I look forward to read from you" just delete the email. They almost got me as well awhile ago. Its best if we expose them as soon as they post. It seems to me once you make a post in the "wanted" section usually in a day or so they will contact you with whatever it was you wanted..and AeAe.

I have been refunded a full credit via PayPal today.
The person who received the funds said in the claim, she has also been scammed. She is a go between accepting payments and passing them along. Hmmm, making money for doing nothing.
How do we go about getting this scam artist banned here? Some research shows it is Linda Dibb, former member.

I can assure everyone that plant does not exist but I am willing to sell you fond memories of it. That is my photo of a plant I bought from Stokes and it died maybe a year later.

So I have escalated to a PayPal claim.
