I have wild free range rabbits, will they bother my bananas?

I am having to plant my new varieties away from the house.

I have some fencing but not enough. .

I have 7 plants that I will put in the ground next spring.

There are wild cottontails here and they never give my bananas any issues. The same can't be said about our annual flowers in the front.

I will sacrifice an orinoco pup....I will take it out and plant it in the open and see what happens. .

Banana leafs are one of the preferred foods of my Holland lops. They don't like to eat the stem unless it is of a very small banana plant. My rabbits ignore them if they are in direct sunlight or around other sources of food like grass.

How tall are your rabbits? :ha:
If they van reach you banana leaves, plant some juicy lettuce nearby. :ha:

Cotton tail and possibly a few jack rabbits (I have seen some big rabbits)

My experience with the wild rabbits in San Diego county is that they strip off all the lower leaves they can reach. For the cottontails, a roll of 3 ft high 1-inch diameter works great, and for the jackrabbits a 1000 fps crackbarrel rifle works well too.

I am looking into a rifle. .rabbits eat everything. ...my dogs have made a peace treaty with them. ..

Naah, do the chick wire and lettuce thing instead of shooting up the neighbourhood.
They also looove chickweed and dandelions. That may even help you with the
weeding :ha:

That bullet looks bigger that the squirrel. What do you do with it? Throw it in their
pass so they will fall over it to break their cute little necks? :ha:

The .17HMR is a VERY small and VERY fast round... Of course, you have to worry about it going through the bunny and into what ever is behind the bunny...

Woaaaa some rabbits can eat like hogs. Disgusting little varmints. They poop every where. Blood Meal should keep them away .. They cant take the smell.. If that don’t do it 36 inch fencing is the only other thing I‘ve used that works. One inch squares or 1 x 2
