No idea, this was planted by the previous owner of my home. I believe he said it's a "burro" banana.

Sad update. As some of you may know, there were a few days of really high winds in Southern California. This is the result:

Any chance these will ripen to edible fruit, or are they still too immature? I'm guessing the later, but what do I know, it's my first bunch -_-
Maybe you should try to prop it up. Do you have a tall ladder?

Agree, prop the stalk with something just enough to keep the bunch in the air and untie that rope. Should be fine.

I agree too.. The rope looks more like a Noose.. :^)

Good luck with your bananas. I would be so upset if that happened to my first banana bunch. Most of the upper leaves on my plants got pretty shredded with the winds over the weekend.
