Frogg --- Where are you in WPB? You may be able to change your USDA zone. Unless you are very near the beach you are zone 10a. I've been rezoned to 10a up here in PSL. My plants are happy now. lol :woohoonaner:

Take a pic from further away. First guess is grubby bugger damage.

I'v posted this several times already. I use something simple like Ortho garden spray, green spray bottle, from HD or Lowes. Pretty simple stuff - not systemic, no smell.
Go to the the top of the trunk where the petioles branch out. May require a ladder. Shoot a couple of squirts into the opening between the cigar leaf and the last emerged leaf. Continue on down with the rest of the petioles.
You can look inside there and there should be a bunch of worm poop and underneath the grubby bugger. The poop is your digested cigar leaves. You can pluck him out and stomp on him a few times - lots of fun. If you don't do anything he will stay in there and get bigger and bigger like Keiths grubbs.
Here are the ones I get --- 3/4 inch long --------

At the risk of sounding overly squeemish and wimpy: that picture is friggin creepy! Ugh! Never mind stomping on it, I would make like Ripley in Aliens and kill it with fire!
