Default Is this really a basjoo?

I was told this was a basjoo but I didn't think they were red??
See images

Also I live in Toronto Ontario (5) and if it is a basjoo should I plant it outdoors this season or wait until next year? And what should I do with it in the meantime?

Thanks!!!

Not a Basjoo...

Ensete ventricosum 'Maurelii' - Bananas Wiki

I don't know that it would make it through November outside that far North...

Hi Gal,

if it was a Basjoo, I would strongly vote for planting it outside. As far as E. Maurelii is concerned
I am facing my first winter with mine. I live in Penticton, BC and intent to leave mine outside for
the winter, but I am using this: Permanent banana shelter for winter and spring, instead of simply
mulching it. After Inserting R12 fibreglass insulation between the layers of polystyrene (Styrofoam),
I am now confident, that I will achieve a total R-value of 20, instead of the 15 in my earlier estimate.
The upgrade is based on slightly better R-value of the fibreglass insulation and the quality of the
gap-less insertion of it.

My advice to you would be: Bring it inside and, if you can, place it close to a bright window and
wait for my result after the winter.

Good luck,
Olaf

It's a lot more tender than Basjoo. It needs to be stored for the winter.

That's a Red Abyssinian banana (Ensete maurelii)... it won't survive outside.

Once you DO find a basjoo, if it's a large corm you can plant outside... it will last the winter... if it's a smaller corm, indoors it should go 'til spring.
