I'm very excited to announce that we have another large bloom!
This one is in the other large pot in the driveway. It hasn't opened the first flower forming petal yet, so we don't know how many bananas we will end up with yet. Also this is the other banana that we don't know what it is. I do know its not ice cream or cavendish of any type. I'm wondering if its possibly Saba. It's already 11 feet tall or so, and a little slower to pup than most of my bananas. I have the picture on my Northern Tropics page on Facebook, I'll get it into some format where I can post it here soon.http://i1283.photobucket.com/albums/a542/sandy02256/image_zps2d204173.jpg (http://s1283.photobucket.com/user/sandy02256/media/image_zps2d204173.jpg.html)

Awesome!

Have you ever flowered a banana in the ground up there in Indiana?

Well we have, but it was one that we planted there in the spring and it just happened to bloom and then we dug it up and repotted it for fall.

they are hanging out in the greenhouse, waiting for spring, like the rest of us. My hubby Ted talking on the phone to my daughter in Colorado while I instagram the picture to her at the same time...technology can be fun!

Those were the biggest pots we could find at our local greenhouse industry supply. They were special order, and everyone there acted like we were crazy ordering them. They have worked well so far.
The bad news is now that the bananas are getting root bound even in these. The one in the second picture towards the foreground now has a large crack in the pot about 2 feet from the bottom and a pup is starting to stick out of the pot through the crack.

Very nice pictures thankyou.
I also am really jealous of your greenhouse. I have been thinking of creating a budget mans green house out of hooped PVC and plastic. All this poor man can con out of the moths in my wallet.

well, they are just hanging on. We had to turn down the heat in the greenhouse to a minimum of 42 at night, so they're just sitting there. They are not growing or getting ripe, but they are fatter looking fruits now anyway. I think when it warms up a little in there overall, then they will start ripening soon.

It has been a very stressful winter.

We couldn't get LP until we were just almost out, then we could only get 100 gallons. Then when we were almost out again, we could get 50 gallons. Then finally the next time we could get 200 gallons. Now they say the supply is back to normal here.
Couldn't get seedstarting mix until 2 weeks late, so everything is being started 2 weeks late because we were out completely. The weather was so bad that the trucks weren't coming from Canada where my pro-mix comes from.
I had almost decided that I wanted to go out of business... until I realized that I didn't want to work for anyone else... or do anything else but what I'm doing...and if I was going to do the same kind of work, then why have to drive to work...lol...so I'm gearing up for spring!

We ended up with about 45 bananas and they ripened up in May after we set it outside. So we got to share them with customers as they ripened so that was great...
