Generally speaking what's the best time of year for Mango grafts? (I live in Fort Myers, FL) My buddy has an awesome mango tree (no idea what kind) and I am thinking about grafting it to one of my trees. Any opinion on if I need to try to match the harvest/tree size between for a better graft? Thanks.

Awesome, anyone have some tastey mangoes that they wouldn't mind sending me cuttings for grafts? :)

Some say the best time is when the rootstock and the scion trees are budding in the springtime. Before the buds break.

Then there are those who say only necessary when the scion wood is budding.

For rootstock the turpentine is preferred.

I was thinking about just grafting them to one of my two mango trees. I don't have room really for a third tree and I thought that this could give my trees a fun "cocktail" effect like you see done sometimes with citrus trees.

If you'd like to get some spiffy old books on grafting, a visit to archive.org will put you on some old scanned books on the subject.
Grafting has been around a long time & even techniques from 100 years ago are still in use today.

Grafting techniques. Grafting should be done in the warmest months of the year with night temperatures above 18C (64F). Many grafting methods are successful with mango, including cleft grafting, chip budding and whip grafting; however, one of the most versatile and reliable is the veneer graft.

Good Luck!:08:

Yes those videos are great. They are what got me excited to try grafting out. I just need to find people who are willing to give me some scions to try. I have a friend with an unidentified variety that's has awesome fruit. But now I want to go on the hunt for more!
