Actually I'm not sure if it's a true Ice Cream.

What do you think it might be?

My big one is a "true" ice cream.

If it is from encanto farms than it's real. Sure looks pale green to me

Yeah, Encanto Farms does have the real deal. I was thrown because I've never seen that pink on any of mine, but I've never seen a TC, and I'm guessing from the little ones that they are TCs. The big one looks like the real thing too. I've probably had 10-15 types bought as TCs but have never seen that amount of pink on any of them!

Encanto is the best.

It looks like it might be a Namwah type with a rather bad case of nitrogen deficiency.

Cool, I was actually hoping they were Namwah, I heard the Namwah are actually really good nanners.

The red color on the petioles is probably due to nitrogen deficiency. You might want to give it some fish emulsion or something else high in N.

Are you sure that's what it is? I have some blood meal.

My Raja Puri experienced the same symptoms a while back. Reddish petioles and lighter colored leaves. Gave it some fertilizer and it bounced back like nothing even happened. Blood meal should do fine, just don't put too much, and see how the plant responds. New leaves should be greener and the petioles should have less red.

This coloration in Namwah is pretty normal. All my Namwahs were the same way and it had nothing to do with a deficiency. If anything these plants are in outstanding shape!

Gorgeous plants Matt!!

Thanks Ken! Is there any way to tell if it is dwarf namwah or the big namwah? Or will I just have to wait to find out?

Hard to tell at first but will give signs soon as the dwarf Namwah gets a massive base on it and more stout. One of my favs actually. Dwarfs fruit around 9'?

Mine only has a little on newly emerged pups. Once they get larger, they're all green. From my experience, it looks like nitrogen deficiency. I would put some blood meal on it just to be safe.

It's hard to tell at this point. You'll know for sure once it gets larger. Given that it was sold as Ice Cream, it's probably a tall.

I planted a tall namwah corm a few years back and it shot out pups constantly and they all had the bright colored petioles like Vipers. They were all water pups since there was no mother plant for vigor. A matter of fact even my larger tall namwahs still kept the pink in some degree. Faded out but still present. Those plants were fed regularly.

Maybe it is just me, but your post is confusing. The title is "My baby Ice Cream has two babies already", but are those babies pups from your original "Mother plant" from Encanto farms and you have separated them and potted them up? Or did you buy the babies somewhere else as TCs ?
I do have an Encanto Farms Ice Cream and it does not have much pink or red anywhere. The pups though have some pink but that pretty much disappears as they grow taller and bigger.

OK, now I got it. You have one real deal "Blue Java" and all others are most likely Namwah.
And your babies are beautiful, too. Just not the real "Blue Java"

The large one is real. I have a real one from Encanto Farms as well. So far it seems like a very vigorous plant.

Great looking Plant! Anyone know if Going Bananas in Homestead florida sells the "real" Ice cream? I had one the past few years that I got there until it died this past winter. Do you think it was a real Ice cream or a Namwa?

I'm starting to think that the real ice cream is as rare to have as what Cali Gold was at one time.

I've tried Namwahs, and I like them a lot. I hear Blue Java isn't that great though, only really good as a frozen treat and for smoothies. Hey, it's nice to have the real plant anyways. :ha:

I'm sure the final taste depends on how you grow the nanner, soil, climate, ripening. Do you know anywhere online you can have exotic bananas shipped to your house?

Rare Bananas (http://www.rarebananas.com/fruit-c-2.html?osCsid=97c16dec72b45e52ed94630dffa9c252). This nursery is actually run by the admin of bananas.org.
