Who is growing this one? Picked up one yesterday from Plants Delight Nursery for $20.00 no tax :08: it's like 2-3 ft. This is the second time going to there nursery and all the banana pups are always on the skinny side. Pups on my plants in the yard the same size are double or more thickness. First plant I got from them last year Helen's Hybrid has not grown well at all. All there's looked wimpy yesterday. So curious to see if Mekong Giant will grow. Just a heads up if anyone buys from them. They have several acres for test sites, where they have large mats of banana plants and other plants that they never offer for sale. They have large AEAE growing in the same area as last, guy claims they bury them with cages and hay. They survive he claims, don't know how when Raleigh can get to like 9 degrees with snow ice in the winter.

Going directly to the nursery must have been fun. I've only done mail orders. From what I understand they do tissue culture for the online catalog.
I did buy a Mekong Giant from them last year. Late in the summer. This year it have only grown about three feet. However it did pop up with a pup growing to the same height. So splitsville here. Have two nice ones that are taking off now. Best, Glenn p.s. I fertilize with either triple 10 or 20-10-10 with micronutrients, seems to work well.

Mine is growing. To be honest with you the nursery sucks. They only let you view two greenhouses with mixed plants. A lot are dead, dieing,or tiny weak plants. All of there banana plants are very skinny. Every type I'm growing in my profile were all small plants when bought and at the same size they were still thicker stronger plants. Bought from another local grower and online. There gardens where they grow what they don't sell is pretty. Sucks because I would like some of the other types they don't sell. Burmese Blue,Darling giant and so on. Sweet cactus garden that you can't tour unless your with a group like a school or garden club and they don't sell any of the hardy barrel cactus That are growing in the cactus garden. I still am amazed the AE AE is just wrapped and covered up with pine straw and it survives freezing weather?? Not sure how that's possible, unless they cut it down dig up the corm and put it in a heated greenhouse. It was the same height it was last year like 7-8 tall. Hard to tell because its growing with trees and other tall plants. It's only good in zone 10 ,zone 9 is pushing it depending where you live.
