They're sooo cute. I'm a wee bit jealous of people with lizards, as we really do have among the lowest reptile/amphibian population out here, but then again I'm also glad to never have to worry about poisonous snakes and frogs, fruit-stealing iguanas, or dangerous gators and snapping turtles.

The Ameiva can do all that plus they can catch their food.... ...All of these lizards are wild, but if you want a pet lizard, Ameivas are the Best.
PR-Giants,
Thanks for the pics!
I just love herps.
Down here on Trinidad, we have some teiids: Ameiva ameiva, Cnemidophorus lemniscatus and the rather large Tupinambis teguixin. We also have the strange teiid-like (Gymnopthalmid) Riama (Proctoporus) shrevei - the "Luminous" lizard.
Once there's a sandpile you get Ameiva nests with eggs! They are - as is your species - great stalkers and hunters. They'll hunt, scavenge and eat anything that they can find!
They're also the easiest of the local teiids to keep in captivity. But who needs to keep them caged when they're all over your lawn and flower beds?
Thanks 4 the pix!

Ameivas are very cute! Around here we just have loads of Anole. They are super hunters of ants when small and loads of other bugs when big. When I was a kid living in Costa Mesa California we had Anole as pets. The male lived to be six, his name was Burt. He out lived four females, each died of old age or egg bound. They were all named Mary. So every pair on our property is a Burt and Mary. We have Bar-B-Q Burt, Gazebo Burt, Banana Burt... the Banana Burt & Mary and BBQ Burt & Mary pairs had babies this year. It looks like their kids have taken up in the Bananas eating the sugar ants.
:goteam: Thank you for the great post. I love Lizards. :goteam:
We have mean Lizards in California.

This is true. The alligator lizards you have posted are the culprit of my first reptile bite and resulting scar on my thumb knuckle. But this is a pair breeding...Yes the males are ruff on the ladies, but they like it that way.:ha:
