With so many brilliant minds on this forum, I am hoping to find a more efficient way of harvesting
avocados from the higher branches. The size and shape of this fruit makes it more difficult.
Fruit size 4" x 13", weight 2.5 lbs.
Some fruit will be well over 30'.
Any ideas will be appreciated.

Use 4.5" diameter PVC pipe. Put lower end of fruit into long PVC pipe, cut top. It will slide down the pipe. You may need two people.:ha:
Maybe a shorter piece of PVC with a catch bag at the end.

I'm actually hoping for a better idea, but that was the easiest I could think of.
I use 4" schedule 20 and connect as many pipes as needed. The fruit do not slide, it's a free fall. The pipe need to be vertical for easier control and the fruit speed is high. The bottom end is positioned above barrels of fresh grass clippings and the fruit have never been damaged upon impact.
These fruit do not need the stem to be cut, but some other Cados do. In that case a small hook is connected to the end and a simply twist of the pipe will release the fruit.

Thanks, but long poles with baskets don't work.
I've used a 25' fiberglass sailboat mast in the past, way too difficult.
A 2.5 lb cado at the end of a long pole and can exceed the force needed to lower a 50 lb avocado
on a short pole, very difficult to manage.

WoW, you must have some yoked friends.
I workout and easily bench 365, and picking heavy fruit with a 30' pole is difficult.
I actually need to anchor one end and then hand over hand walk the pole up and down for each fruit.
The pvc pipe does it about 6 to 8 times faster and with little effort.
