well I've lived just north of Toronto almost my who life, I graduated high school in June and now I'm going to St clair collage in Windsor On. I wanted to start over in a city where I won't know a soul. I've going for landscape technician. although I'm going for more of the plant learning. but you have to do a bit of both.

Windsor has the longest growing season. When I was visiting in March I saw they have a couple big greenhouses. heated too. One is filled with tropical's. I plan on taking a few plants they probably won't have and grow them there. They have a tall banana variety but maybe I'll bring a pup of one of my dwarf's. dragon fruit and couple more. I will post pics of the interesting plants they have.

Study a lot more than you think you need too!

Hopefully going to a college like that will be a lot of fun.

Oh and don't forget to post pictures of those greenhouses.

Congrats! Enjoy your college years....they are probably some of the best years of your life, so live it up! Try new things, meet as many people as you can and make some great friends.

Oh, and as far as academics go, ALWAYS go to class. Don't ever get into the habit of skipping, it can lead to terrible marks and such (yeah, we say 'grades,' but I have Canadian friends so I know you all don't LOL). Being present in your classes each session tells the prof you are trying your best and they will give you the benefit of the doubt if it ever comes to it (whereas if you hardly come at all, they won't). Study hard, do all your assignments on time, etc.

But yeah....have fun and enjoy the experience!

:goteam::08:Congrats young scholar. I am sure you will blow them away with your awesome banana knowledge; maybe you will be able to teach them a thing-er-two. Plant Science was one of my favorite subjects.
Keep your books, they come in handy.:08::goteam:

Good for you Matt!

I did the same thing; August of last year I transferred from The College of The Bahamas in The Bahamas (lol) to Mississippi State University in the US, where I didn't know a soul either. It's a great experience that forces people who're more introverted usually (like myself) to make new friends and practice their social skills. Definitely was a good thing stepping out of my comfort zone and trying new things, there's usually tons to do at college so you should have a great time. Glad to hear the growing situation's good there too :)

Like Bryan says, GO to class! It's a lifesaver when your teacher gives you some intergral tidbit or pop quiz that contributes to your grade, and so worth it. Best wishes with your upcoming first year :)

Coolio, you'll be just over the Louisiana state line! And that's right near the coast, so you shouldn't miss the Florida beachline too much ;)

And I love the Muscadine Ice Cream that MSU sells using the diary from its farms, so I'm sure the Muscadines themselves are awesome.

I knew about the Extension Service but hadn't heard of the McNeil Research Unit before you brought it up, from what I've read it looks pretty great. Are you planning on growing some Muscadines yourself? :)

Wow Muscadine Ice Cream! I haven't had any of that since I was at Calloway Gardens about fifteen years ago. I hope I'll be able to buy some. That stuff is awesome!

I have about 30 vines currently. Should start producing next year.
