We just joined the forum. Nuhht (Orapin) is Thai and I am North American. We grow a few bananas for the leaves in our Thai cooking. We would like to know how to separate and grow the suckers for our friends.

Welcome!
I guess you are working on your pin because I can't see it at the moment :)

This thread should be pretty useful for you:

Time to separate the pups for the Spring (http://www.bananas.org/showthread.php?t=1814)

Then just either re-plant the pup into the ground or you can pot it up, whichever you like. They can handle sunlight, too, so you know. Plenty of water, good drainage, and nutrients like fertilizer and compost, old peels, etc.
And use as big a pot as your space allows. The roots will quickly hit the bottom as the plant searches out even more food and foothold.

Thanks, MediaHound and others for the info. I had to transplant five plants, 6-8" cal., this Spring. They had been planted almost touching a deck by the previous owner. As a retired nurseryman, I used the usual B&B technique. Now, I see I did a lot more work than necessary! The plants are doing well and are producing several pups, which I intend to separate and give to our Thai friends.

Thanks, again!
Dave and Nuhht

I see you got your pin situated, too.

Best of luck this growing season! Keep in touch!
