View Full Version : Desperately seeking Musa ae ae pups
Hello Members
I am a Graduate student at Longwood Gardens, whom I believe used to grow Musa ae ae many years ago. They have long since lost this plant. I was wondering if there any growers of Musa ae ae out there who would be kind enough donate a small pup of Musa ae ae to me and ultimately to Longwood Gardens. I have looked at various sites on the web but they are all extremely expensive, especially for a grad student! I will be happy to pay for postage!
Thanks!
Regards
Gary

Hey Gary
I have observed all the hype about the AeAe on here for years but was never convinced this plant could be worth the effort and expense and effort to obtain and grow until I saw an unbelievably amazing mat in the greenhouse at the botanical garden in Charlotte SC. It was a perfect clump of six or seven - glass ceiling tall - pseudo stems with dozens of pups -all with perfect leaves and huge clumps of striped fruits!! Maybe find and "social friend" someone who works there and make a deal! Otherwise stick around on this site and watch and see how pplz on here will beg, borrow, deal, offer to trade their oldest child, etc, all to have the opportunity to get and maybe even successfully grow this beautiful banana variety. ... Although some time back - if you passed the owners requirements - there was a member on here in FL with a large number of these bananas on his property ... and in some years he would allow adoption and in person pick up of a significant pup if he was sure you were a serious and able grower. ...... As for me I stick with and feel satisfied growing the various red leaf banana forms and when I long for plants with the green white leaves I get another new variety of hosta (and then cage it to deter the deer!!) Welcome to Bananas and good luck in your search!! Max
