Hi,

I use a compost/mulch made of the Common bamboo Bambusa vulgaris, Rottboellia exaltata and other silica-rich grasses. To me, these are rather cheap sources of silica.

High available silica in the soil is thought to provide banana plants with some resistance against Fusarium wilt (Panama Disease).

I grow some of my bananas on acid clays with restricted internal drainage and low effective soil depth in the rainy season... so that is a paradise for infections of all kinds.
