I haven't seen new growth of one of the ground planted bananas in probably two weeks. What does this mean? Should I dig it up and put it in a pot with better soil? Had to do that with the other ground planted naner.

Check the drainage of the soil. Dig a hole fill it with water after 12 hours fill it again if you still have water after 3 hours you have a drainage problem. Dig the plants out and plant then on pots. That is what happened to me 2 months ago and I almost kill the corm of three of my plants. They are now doing great, look image below.

Yeah had to plant in a pot the soil is all clay. When I would water it the water would take a couple minutes to soak in which I think isn't too good.

I am sorry to said it but that is your problem and mine. Two choices even dig a very large hole and mix sand with compost it may work but it takes time for the clay to loose up or grow it in a raise bed (also include digging a large hole) a mount may work too. Next year I will transplant just one plant to test the soil using the raise bed model. Will see!

How do you winterize the grow beds or you don't winterize?
