Hello my names is Gavin, 23 year old, zone 6 banana enthusiast. I have had a dwarf cavendish for two seasons and have currently made bananas my botanical focus. I hope to have a forest of different species in my backyard. I'm here to share information about cold hardy and super dwarf species of bananas. I'm new to forums but this seemed worth signing up for. thanks, talk to you soon.

Hi Gavin
Pittsburgh here - a guy on a hill above the stadiums here once had a small forest of Basjoos for some years. You may be able to imitate that in your location, but a for a "forest" of different species, you'll probably need to move quite a few zones far South. Unless of course you have many big pots and someplace to store them inside for the winter away from the snow! ;-} anyway - welcome and continue to post your experiences! Max

Hi Gavin,

disregard what Max363 just posted. A lot of us in HZ6 winter bananas outdoors with success and
some of us do it even in HZ5. There is a lot of good advise on "how to" on this board. As you can
see in my side bar profile, I am in HZ6 myself and I plant only small and very young plants in pots
to bring them inside.

Welcome and good luck,
Olaf

Welcome there is a great wealth of information on this site.

I am zone on the zone 5/6 border myself. I currently have 9 different varieties. Almost all of them are in pots as the soil where I am is very high in clay and very hard. I personally find better growth in pots here. Do some trial and error and find a system in the ground or in containers that works where you are.

I think my project this year is going to be building a real grow room for the winter.
