Hello everyone, Lance here. I am new to the forum and to the banana planting. Well sort of. I have a now two year old Musa Dwarf Red Banana plant. It is about 2.5 foot high. It is planted in a pot all year round. The winter it is in my house and summer outside in the pot. I live in PA. I just had to replant it today because it was root bound. The pot it is in now is 15`` at the opening x14`` deep and about 11`` around at the bottom. I use Master Nursery called gardener gold all organic potting soil. I water it every other day. I also use tropical delights banana fuel 15*5*30. Summertime i use 1/2 tsp per gallon of water and only use it every 7 days or so and regular watering.
Anyways am I doing this right? I am looking for the right way to get bananas going. Last year it dried out cause I was in the hospital but this summer it is in full bloom. As soon as I figure out how to upload pictures I will. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated! And how to set up the soil properly and prune spikes? Thanks for your help all, Lance

Ps I also forgot I got the plant from well spring garden in Florida.

Sound good... You might be watering a bit too often, but, if you've kept it alive for two years watering it every other day, keep on doing it...

Everyone has their own opinions on the best soil... There is a section here on the org just for soils and additives...

Banana Plant Soil, Additives, and Fertilizer - Bananas.org (http://www.bananas.org/f312/)

The soil I use is the Cactus, Palm, and Citrus soil that you can pick up at Lowe's or Home Depot... Sometimes I buy the MiracleGro, sometimes I buy the Schultz brand... Mix in a little Perlite, and it has worked fine for me for several years...

I am just a banana hobbyist, though... There are several people here that take this much more seriously than I do...
