Hello All, I'm new here. From deep south Texas. I recently purchased a couple of banana trees from a local garden center, but I don't know what species of banana they are. One tree is over 6' tall in one five gal pot. In the other pot, there is one tree about 3-4' tall, with about 6 "baby" banana trees coming up all around it. I'm hoping to plant them around my house, just outside my kitchen window.

But, actually, my question is should I be concerned about cockroaches? I've had several people warn me about banana trees attracting roaches! I hate roaches, so I want to do all I can to kill & discourage them before I have a problem.

Any suggestions?

Banana plants do not attract roaches, maybe compost/mulch around the plant but not the plant itself

Down here, palms attract more roaches than anything. You may see an increase in ants, especially on the banana but they usually don't stray too far off from the plant.
