I've got 4 pots of banana plants that look like this some with fewer pups. This one has 7. I potted them in pots since I couldn't decide where to plant in the ground and they've all taken off like crazy. One is about 6 feet tall. :woohoonaner:

Should I split off some of the pups now into their own pots or wait until the end of the season or the beginning of next season to split them?

Thanks, Jeanne

You could separate off some of the bigger ones if you wanted to. Now is not a terrible time to separate (much better than fall) since it will have a good season to recover during. Just put the plants in some shade after transplanting or maybe partial sun depending on how oppressive the sun is there right now.

You mentioned setting them in the shade or partial if I split them. It's funny because 3 of the 4 are in almost complete shade, perhaps some dappled sun. The picture I posted is the only one that gets a lot of intense sun and it's smaller... more pups, but smaller plants.

After you separate them it is best to keep out of direct sun until they put on new growth

Yeah, the shade was only to help with transplant shock. Once they are recovered, I'd go full sun. Bananas love sunlight....just watch to make sure they get watered often, especially in a pot. Depending on the size of pot, you may have to water it once or even twice a day.
