My new Pisang Klotek plant is the fastest growing banana plant I have ever had.
As you can see in the picture, one leaf is not even unrolled yet, but the next is already coming out.
I have amended the soil with lots of compost and aged chicken manure. Is it overfertilized with organics? Is this called choking?

Is it possible to overfertilize an inground banana mat - I've never worried about that -I just pile on horse poop and nana fuel in the summer - what would the over fert signs look like?

The same happened to me but a few days in a row of 100 + degrees direct sun fixed right away.

This is choking....the new leaf or flower never makes it up the pstem.
This choke had two leaves stuck.
Your plant is so happy it is not waiting for the other leaves to get out of the way.:woohoonaner:

choking is a FLOWER that does not make it up the stem

I've heard that choking can be caused by too much p (which causes premature blooming) - the P in N-P-K.

Since the last leaf has fully emerged just unroll it by hand to free up the cigar. When your PK gets over 10 ft this will be more fun. lol

Haha, I hope that at 10' height I can worry about harvesting fruit....
It looked normal today, unfurled itself.

Think more like 14 ft to flower. Or higher, depending upon how you feed it and the weather. If you get winds like me and momo it will need support. Just tied mine to the fence with a young bunch of fruit hanging and the pstem already leaning.

But you are going to put a more traditional brace at the apex of the stem holding the bunch right????????????
The reason I bring this up is I heard that heavy bunchs will break the P-stem at the location of the tie or brace unless the bunch HANGS from that apex point.
I will not say how I know this from personal experience!

Slipped a rope right under the peduncle to support bunch. Rope is tied off to fence on 6 inch galv marine cleats. PK is leaning away from fence so this will work. If it were leaning over the fence the rope would go to 2 palm trees to the left and right of where I took this pic. Should work ok.

That's a huge bunch. Don't see them that large here due to shortened growing season.

Dan, how tall does a PK normally get?

Flowers at 14 to 16 ft at my place. Should be a bit taller with more hands growing in PR.

I'm starting to suspect that Pisang Klotek and Pisang Ceylon are the same plant. I thought PK was a shorter plant, but at those heights it is not. I have them both planted in the same hole and I can't tell which one is which any more. The "follower" pup on my PK is already 13'+ and no bloom yet.
