I used to be a dedicated NASCAR fan DVR'ing everything from practice to post race commentaries but NASCAR has ruined the sport!

It should be called, (NASCAR "We just want to be like Formula One"")!!!

I don't follow it that close, and surely not watching the whole thing unless its Talladega where the wrecks are awesome, when they happen.. :^)

Jr. in on the Pole for tomorrow's race. Man he's need to win one, but what are the chances? :^)Depends on whether the "fix" is in. Before you castigate me for dissing NASCAR--remember how the participants (including the # of drivers) in this year's chase changed within days. Then tell me it doesn't smell like professional wrestling....

Hey, where is "Smoke"? Personally I keep my eye on Martin (not the oldest--can't recall his name) but he and Patrick are usually within a few slots of each other--at the low middle. Not a fan of Go Daddy but do like to see old guys participate so I notice her.

I don't watch either--honest. Knew enough about the 'Skins to be PC when I lived in DC and have always kept up just enough with sports to conversate.

Smoke injured. Broke leg I think.

Martin Truex?

Kat2
09-29-2013, 03:39 AM
Smoke injured. Broke leg I think.

Martin Truex? No, Mark Martin. Old guy at aged 54. Not the oldest. Morgan Shepherd aged 71 (normally in the Nationwide part-time) was scheduled to drive at New Hampshire in July; I don't know if he did or not.

I have never had an accident or moving offense ticket (hey, I lived in DC so parking tickets happen) despite driving with a lead foot since 1970. I have had 2 blowouts at over 80 MPH and am here posting about fruit.

1st was in 1971 when I was heading off to do a look see at my 1st alma mater in Asheville. I was about 20 miles out of DC late at night heading down 95 with my mother fast asleep in the back of my father's prized Ford station wagon. Road was clear so I hit it. Mom woke up "Sweetheart, aren't we going too fast?"

"No, Mom, the speed limit is 95; I'm only doing about 90."

"Oh, okay."

Not ten minutes later the rear driver's tire blew. I was going uphill so probably only 90 (I vividly recall seeing 100 at some points) but WHOA! Pulled over and I began pulling out "stuff" to change the tire. Some man stopped to help. Thank goodness! I had no idea where to put the jack and where I had it was ALL wrong. (End of my "I'll open my own door women's lib stuff--I don't know everything.)

2nd blowout was about 7 years ago. This time rear passenger. But in a Geo Metro Convertible. I was only doing 80 or a little more--Molly loved it when I opened her up! But this time with my father beside me. And not uphill. He'd taught me to drive on his 3 on the tree Valiant so he trusted me to handle things and I did. (Actually I doubt he realized what was happening; he was 87ish at the time.)

Apparently I do just fine going pretty fast with good tires and those that aren't so good so I think NASCAR and I should meet. ;)

I did in spurts as usual. Mr. Cocoa, a die hard fan, keeps me posting via IM--sometimes. I asked about Danica running 43; he said she crashed within the 1st lap or so which might be a record for the shortest drive. Oh. Then I commented on how darned long the race was--whenever I flipped the channel to it there was a full sized commercial thus a caution. Most cautions ever there it seems. Or maybe anywhere. I caught the last crash into the wall I believe (about 40 laps to go--don't quote me) and then it went quick. I still don't get why only the guys in the selected group can win but I'm an accountant so statistics aren't my forte.

Kyle Busch crashing was pretty good.. Ripped the whole front off his car.. :^)Might have been him. 1 I saw was basically white car with blue on it. Into the wall then across the track 1/2 way then back into the wall until wrecked metal slithered towards the center. Others avoided well but of course the race stopped. Kyle certainly didn't like the track--says it's the worst he's ever driven. So KC is worse than Talladega? Really? New one to watch? ;)

I do have a thing for the Saints. It has something to do with my late mother being from NO but it's more than just that. Watching them win the SB was very special for me. I don't watch sports much but for some reason I just happen to catch games they play and win. Weird.

The local track here in town has figure 8 racing every week in spring and summer. It would be cool if NASCAR would try that. NASCAR lost me right around the the time the COT came out. The best days were when they had Chevys, Pontiacs, Buicks, Oldsmobiles, Fords, Dodge and Chryslers with their factory bodies and chrome wheels and bumpers! Then all the 'rules' set in, what a shame.

Apparently Daytona got some of our rain. Okay, they got a bunch of it. I rushed home from a volunteer gig serving lunch, turned on the TV and nearly fell over when I noticed Danica was running #2 just behind Jeff. (I know I've I mentioned this before but I'm old so stuck on this.) I got yelled at in IM and told I was jealous of Danica because I said that it was oddly coincidental that Petty, who has a respected history in the sport and has no reason to make waves decided to speak out about her ability to win a race "only if everyone stayed home" last week and then she was in the top 5 for a few laps at Daytona where she happened to be second for a bit last year also.

I smell a rat--a publicity rat--drivers instructed to let her "show" to stir things up and then the race becomes a race with her finishing at 27 or so. (This very jaundiced old bat does think that the best driver eventually wins but keeping the action and interest going until a few races before the final cut makes ratings and sells tickets. I like Martin...he's also old.)

Kat2

what's a gauge? lol :^)Actually I was trained by my father to always record mileage when I fill up so I have a clue about MPG and fuel needs; I also set the trip meter. (My only time running out was 2 blocks from the station in my '69 B ages ago.) My current ride (hate this stupid automatic S10) claims I have 1/4 tank after driving 120 miles. Yeah, right. I stop to fill up according to miles driven. I look at the other gauges but don't trust them either; I get my fluids and air pressure checked by others when I can find someone otherwise I do it. (I prefer to get my hands dirty in the garden.)

no back 40 here.. I'm sure kids these days are at a loss to simplistic basics of many things we old school-rs do or recall doing that today's young would like you got to be kidding..

I trained my son to do the mileage thing; the apple didn't fall far from this tree as I didn't from the one before me.

I have broken the habit of topping off the tank on anything. Finally. (Walking into Denny's smelling like a gas station isn't a nice thing to do except the time I did the hose spewed on me.)

The sensitive nature of hoses these days makes it near impossible.. It's more like they make you hold thehandle it cause it will cutout 10 times before it gets full.. Murphy's are the worst for that.. at least around here..

Wait, are you saying Miss Kay doesn't cook those frogs and squirrels and such? I've never had TarDucken (had a lot of pig) and, after deboning a turkey then filling it with dressing then making it look like it was still intact several times, I'm not convinced that doing 3 birds for one meal would be worth the effort. I overheard the race but didn't watch any of it; I generally peek in. There's something inherently wrong about a Monday race. Everyone's all worked up for "boogity boogity" sometime before midnight Sunday; when that doesn't happen the energy sags. That's what I think because even the fanantic took breaks to go wax on his truck despite the fact that his fav had pole position. There's always next week...

Well Tis the Season for Saturday Night Races.. 3 of the next 4 Races, and then followed by the All Star Race (Which don't count since no points involved).. The Sunday Race in 2.5 weeks being Talladega.. I'd to see that race w/ no restrictor plates.. :^)

Kat2
04-09-2014, 05:33 PM
Talladega without plates is the wish of every "what's a race without a little gore or at least some banged up fenders other than a bunch of guys driving fast around and around" fan's wish. Says she who has driven with a lead-foot in many vehicles since 5/15/70 (yes, I know the day I passed!) and never had a moving violation or accident. (You can't count me sliding into a parked car on a black ice lot in the 70s--I don't. Stupid me let my insurance company pay the $115 damages to their vehicle. And, yes, though I was late catching my commuter bus, I left a note.)

Abnshrek

Well I'm sure if they had no restrictor plates they would be going 220-230 easy.. Engines go here and there as it is.. So they actually might have to use their brakes when cornering.. 3 Wide in the corner would not happen.. lol :^)

Maybe it's a good thing Mr. Cocoa is a longtime, diehard NASCAR fanatic. We're coming back down Route 1 doing 55 (speed limit). 2 lanes and we're in the left one. Some maroon pulls out from a business on the far right side of the road then proceeds to cut off both lanes so he (I'm sure it was a guy) can get into the left turn lane. No time for us to stop so instead of plowing into the back of his stupid minivan we were off onto the 16' wide and slanted grassy median. He was braking the entire time but obviously judiciously. For just a few seconds we were heading into oncoming traffic but quick actions took us back into the prairie. I didn't see the motorcycle he also avoided. Believe it or not the people who saw it drove past when we finally stopped and flipped birds! Hello?

No brakes. Apparently it was the left front line. Hope that's all. I'm thinking he should have just plowed into the rear of the idiot and be done with it; his truck's heavier and it would not have been his fault.

What a surprise that was! JG winning.

So California Chrome, using true horsepower, got the 2nd victory in the triple crown today. Good for him.

And now I'm listening to the "doesn't count race" in the background while looking up recipes. I need my own home and TV so I can watch chick flicks and soon before I twitch out completely.

Caught 2 scammers on CL trying to sell houses they don't own. Owner of the 1st situation reported her to the FBI (she's flim flamming in many states); I reported the 2nd to the local sheriff's department who will probably do nothing even though I handed them hard copies of her obvious attempts to defraud me (who else?) and a bit of searching found her preforming the same type of con since 2009! The 2nd "seller" has a picture of a property listed on MLS! Owner is in NY (I know how to check county records.)

I'm pretty sure I told her I once sold RE which should be a red flag; I know I wrote (e-mail) that I was confused by she was offering a listed property at $25K for $22K. Yet she keeps contacting me. Why? I've concluded it's because I have a Jacksonville cell number still so I'm "out of the area" thus an easy mark like those she took in CA. (Now she's offering "her house" at $19K but told me I could have it for $15K--$12.5K from the owner through my agent would be my best offer and be contingent on inspections as I told her)

Apparently there are people who actually hand over a cash deposit to "hold" a RE transaction without more than a meaningless receipt; not me nor will I will give you information about my bank so you can debit my account. Besides contacting the law, I have called the listing agent. I have done all I can to protect sheep from the slaughter. This isn't a car--this is RE. Sheesh!

Done talking non race stuff--are they ever going to drop that flag?

Finally, "drivers start your engines"!

Going home....

I did not know the blimp had a Facebook page.Nor did I but driving through Akron on the way to Wadsworth from MD, it was right over me! Felt like only 2' above because these old eyes could read the "fine" print and it seemed very big. I'm sure it wasn't that low but what a memorable moment.

Kenseth (the new points leader) finds himself in the same situation as Kyle Larson (who is this guy?) & Ryan Newman who are the only 3 drivers in the Top 12 in Points who don't have a Win. JJ won which sucks & Gordan really stunk it up today in the end.. Junior needs another win. I wonder if Pocono will treat him right. I guess we'll see come next weekend.. :^)

Points, smoints. Let's change the rules again this year and include anyone who finished any race in the final "count" Why not? And while they're doing that, let's just change how the winner is determined like we do a dancing or singer show so the fans can just vote for their favorite.

NASCAR is getting really silly--beyond silly--"professional wrestling silly"--a joke to many and the owners wonder why, besides the economy, that they're losing fans? Mr. Cocoa has been a diehard fan for 20 years; he's not stupid but doesn't get the new qualifying "stuff" nor the points. Me? I don't care as long the the Cowboys always beat the Redskins and the Saints won a Super Bowl.

(Thankfully they got rid of that gopher with his camera before I bought a weapon and shot out my TV. :ha:)

Well, they are heading for Daytona Saturday.. Gordan has the points lead, and has JJ & JR. 24 points down.. JR. still needs another Win.. :^)

JR. did pretty good in Ky., but it wasn't a Win..

Well Daytona didn't slow down Jr.'s momentum.. He is in #2 points all alone after JJ didn't fare so well.. :^)

They will be doing Indy tomorrow. Juan Pablo is back.. Jr.s is still 2nd in pts and JJ is looking to move up from 5th w/ the fastest car in practice.. :^)

I'd like to know how the 9th place car that leads no laps somehow gets more points than folks placing 2nd -8th? :^)

I'd like to know how the 9th place car that leads no laps somehow gets more points than folks placing 2nd -8th? :^)Have you tried to read the rules? Mr. Fan gave up. I, with 2 college degrees, went blind. I swear this is just like professional wrestling...winners are picked far ahead of time and then the rules are bent to fit reality. I'm jaundiced enough to think horse racing is the same along with all other sports in this country. Okay, maybe not a one on one tinkling match where only 2 "owners" are involved. Purse? A six pack so you can "go" at it again.

Well I read that point thing wrong.. I was reading total points not race points..

Well I read that point thing wrong.. I was reading total points not race points..So do you understand the point thing? I swear it seems they make it up as the season progresses but I'm sure that's not the case. Why do more than 16 drivers participate after the cup contestants are chosen? To me this sounds like all football teams continuing to play during the playoff but their games don't count.

Well not the one that Drives the car now.. Now I'd like it if Carmen Electra drove.. like most guys.. Maybe she could do the Nation-Wide Series.. I'd have a good reason to watch that pre & post race.. lol :^)

Accident or misguided intentions that went horribly wrong?

I think Stewart screwed up on this one.

That he was planning to race today made me sick. I think TS planned to scare the kid by throwing up dirt. Ward may have moved closer--confused. If TS didn't have a history of anger issues and rough play, I might consider a terrible accident.

Tony Stewart Surprises Crowd and Wins at Tri-City Motor Speedway « Tri-City Motor Speedway (http://www.tricityracetrack.com/tony-stewart-surprises-crowd-and-wins-at-tri-city-motor-speedway/)

He still won? IMO, this guy should not have been in the middle of the track anyway. But I like Tony's rash history of negative attitude on the track. At least someone is adding some fun to it. I 100% agree with him that Nascar needs more crashes and less Restrictor plate's.

Will Gordan blow his engine going so fast or finally win & take the lead back in points?
Tony is sitting on the sidelines, which bodes well for Jeff Burton @ least he's driving a Chevy. I always liked that guy.. :^)

Abnshrek

And Gordan takes the Points lead.. Of course ESPN had Gordan & Jr. tied @ 812 but that has been corrected..
Happy comes in 2nd for the 4th time..
Who hit the wall, that was pretty cool.. :^)

Well lets get to the Chase.. The BK has the points lead by 3 over Gordon, Jr., JJ, and Joey Logano.. 16 in the Chase.. Give me a break.. :^)

Abnshrek
09-15-2014, 04:11 PM
BK wins the 1st Race in the Chase keeping the points lead.. Gordan remain in 2nd place, Logano moves up to 3rd, and Happy Moves to 4th. The Looser's.. Jr drops to 5th in pts, JJ drops 4 spots to 8th, and Karl Edwards drops 5 places to 12th..

Abnshrek
09-22-2014, 06:27 PM
Gordan skids to 7th in points 27 points back the leader (BK), Logano moves to 2nd place w/ Win.. Field gets trimmed to 12 after this coming up race @ Dover you should see Denny Hamlin driving like a mad-man (13th in points) after loosing 6 spots after New Hampshire he's on the Bubble w/ Biffle, Kurt Busch, Eric Amirola.. Biffle has to beat them outright in points since he doesn't have a win this season.. :^)

Abnshrek
09-28-2014, 10:04 PM
1-12 all have 3000 points.. Have a Bad Race or wreck your going downhill real quick. This Phase of the Cup Starts in Kansas, then Charlotte, and ends in Talladega. I hear the Ding Ding (Bell) of the Contender Round.. :^)

Joey Logano leads the points Race w/ 5th win.. Charlotte & Talledega races are left before field gets cut to 8 for the Chase.. Gordon dropped to 8th w/ 14th place finish, but has 4 wins and same number of points and Kenseth in 7th place w/ Zero wins? Only other Racer w/o any wins is in 4th place in points Ryan Newman w/ RCR.. Anyway Kasey Kahne 9th, BK in 10th, Jr. in 11th, and JJ in the 12th spot.. Might be a New Champion this year.. :^)

Abnshrek
10-20-2014, 05:05 PM
Well nobody has to worry about JJ winning the cup this year, he, JR, Kyle Busch, and Kasey Kahne are no longer in the running.. Eliminator 8 Still have a chance.. :^)

Abnshrek
10-26-2014, 10:10 PM
Jr wins 4th Race, while Gordan finished in 2nd place, but takes the Points lead over the other 7 in the running by 3 whole points.. :^)

Abnshrek
11-05-2014, 09:06 AM
Gordan goes from 1st to 4th in points, doesn't win on the track but he sure did in the pits (did he go 51/50 Redneck?).. The go to Az for the last race before they cut it to four contenders for the Championship round of Races.. :^)
